Auction success

'Approaching Southerly' - Island Bay, oil on canvas, 60 x 90cm
‘Approaching Southerly’ – Island Bay, oil on canvas, 60 x 90cm (reserve price US$4,250)

I’ve just had word that the Island Bay Art Auction on Friday was a huge success and has surpassed the last Auctions record fundraising total! The funds go to the schools art and culture program -which to my mind is a vital part in any child’s education, so I’m very happy to have helped with that!

“Every child is an artist. The problem is how to remain an artist once we grow up” ~ Picasso

I find it a bit hard to go to these things when my paintings are involved. But apparently the art looked stunning and the good news is that two of my paintings, ‘Wild South’ & ‘Drylands’, are off to new homes. It means that I get to have ‘Approaching Southerly’ back in my Studio/Gallery for a while now which I don’t mind at all, it’s one of my recent favourites! It has a drama of the storm approaching while we bask in the sunshine – which is kind of symbolic of the wider climate issues facing us!

There’s a link here to a great Korero (chat) between one of the organisers Dan Wilkinson & Redbird jnr from Radio Active last Monday morning about the show & the schools artistic vision.

      1. Oh my friend, if I may call you that, I so get it. I paint or pretend to and know first hand of the journey you go alone. Know you are succeeding – if not by worldly rewards – by mastery of composition, color and telling your own truth. You are, as it turns out, in superlative company. Think of Cezanne’s seeking a path onward.

  1. Thank you Ian. It’s been great to have you participate in our art auction. And not only once. I think you may have been there at the beginning. 2005! You have always been a true drawcard when it comes to promoting our event.

    1. Thank you Gretchen. It’s always good to help support the next generation of local kids to find the art in their hearts! Not to mention selling some paintings to pay the bills…👍

  2. That’s great news Ian & agree wholeheartedly about your philosophy about the Arts and education! Shall try and listen to the radio link – had trouble before but might work on this computer. Visited a WONDERFUL place yesterday that’s converting farmland into native forest and has an educational facility – took a lot of photos so hope to blog soon.

  3. You do such beautiful work and your paintings are so real looking and delightful you can almost taste everyone’s word that describe the work of art. I wish I could buy some but alas not born with a silver spoon in my mouth and no real gifts that will propel me there but there is always the hope that one day I will be at your doorstep and leaving with painting under arm. Dreams have turned into reality…I know from experience. Be well.
