The Wild Places

“True solitude is found in the wild places, where one is without human obligation. One’s inner voices become audible… In consequence, one responds more clearly to other lives.” – Wendell Berry on solitude.

This morning as I sat at my easel I had a visitor. Tomtits are forest birds not often encountered through the window. I felt the delight of connection with her, the inspiration and appreciation of the time spent here in the delicate stillness of this wild place, ‘Hou Ngahere”.

“We have today to learn to get back into accord with the wisdom of nature and realize again our brotherhood with the animals and with the water and the sea.” from “Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth, with Bill Moyers”
